My Before and After Pictures

I don’t have any before and after pictures to share my progress using the principles I teach in Formula3. You may wonder why I wouldn’t be more conscientious about data gathering so that I could use it for promotion and sales. You would think I would have been a more thoughtful and savvy business owner. But here’s the truth:

I was never planning on losing weight. Or feeling better. Or staying in the fitness industry. I didn’t feel like I could help anyone else when I couldn’t even understand or help myself.

I didn’t think I would ever fit into clothes I wore before I felt like my body betrayed me. And once I started feeling fluffy, tired, unmotivated and disinterested in fitness, I for sure didn’t want to document how I looked.

It would be an easy assumption on your part to think, “what do you know about being overweight and out of shape?” You could assume that because I work in fitness that I’m always fit. But the reality is that the changes in my shape, weight and fitness level where declining rapidly and while I may have stopped those changes before they became catastrophic, I still understand the frustration of trying to be healthy and lose fat, but not being able to. I KNOW how that feels because I lived it, too.

My motivation to try fasting and change my workouts was to heal my liver, balance my hormones, feel like myself again and try to understand how to better navigate perimenopause. I didn’t think I’d create a program for myself or anyone else to benefit from. I was strictly trying to not be sick, insulin resistant, overweight, weak, cranky and tired of trying.

Thankfully, I’m on the other side of that miserable person! I’m so grateful that I experienced all those side effects of hormone changes and injuries so that I can help other women to feel better. I know I don’t have it all figured out yet, but that’s why we keep learning. And, NO ONE has it all figured out, especially if they’re telling you they do! What I am sure of is that no one needs to suffer under the guise of “getting older” or “living with a slow metabolism” or “this is just what happens to women” and feeling terrible about yourself. There are very practical behaviors that we can all adopt that will influence how our bodies function, feel and behave in the future.

What I recently discovered is that I do have some pictures to share that show some physical changes after all. I’ve been sorting through my shorts recently and discovered that it was a good thing I wasn’t very organized with my clothes last year. If I had been, I probably would have given away a lot of the shorts that I can now wear again. They fit differently because I’m not an exercise freak like I was in my previous life, but they are a comfortable reminder that I have changed.

These first 3 images are of shorts that there were very snug last summer. The bottom two photos are of shorts that I couldn’t even get over my hips last year. To be perfectly transparent, I prefer clothes to fit a little looser, maybe because I’ve spent so much of my life in spandex that comfort feels like a nice change. But these top three shorts are even too loose for my comfort level.

I post these pictures not to brag or to get accolades. But instead, to prove you that change is possible. While I may not know your exact history or story, I can assure that we have very similar experiences as women. We all have the ability to feel our best and it doesn’t take hours of exercise and restrictive eating. It will take some determination to change, a desire to feel better and a willingness to be coached, but every single one of us can do that.
